SoilMap Layer: Streams 305b
The 2004 Streams 305b layer represents the streams of Pennsylvania with attributes needed in PADEP managed programs.
DEP stream layer is maintained by the PADEP Office of Water Management, Bureau of Water Supply & Wastewater Management, Water Quality Assessment and Standards Division. The layer originally was based on the Penn DOT streams layer which is maintained by sending updates to Penn State for actual addition into the GIS layer. Additional update information is provided by Bureau of Watershed Management, Water Use Planning Division. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has an ongoing program to assess the quality of waters in Pennsylvania and identify streams and other bodies of water that do not meet water quality standards as "impaired." Water quality standards are comprised of the uses that waters can support and goals established to protect those uses. Uses include, among other things, aquatic life, recreation, and drinking water, while the goals are numerical or narrative water quality criteria that express the in-stream levels of substances that must be achieved to support the uses. Periodic reports on the quality of waters in the Commonwealth are required under section 305(b) of the federal Clean Water Act. To see detailed data for this layer, use the dropdown under the Layer List and select Streams 305b. This makes the 305b Streams the active layer. Then use the ID Tool to click on a stream on the map. For More Information - Visit the DEP Water Quality Standards Program Initiatives site. The data and documentation on SoilMap are provided 'as is' and the User assumes the entire risk as to their quality and performance. SoilMap source data was produced at a variety of scales and may not be suitable for use at larger scales. |
